As a protective measure, this little animal rolled itself up in a ball
in the middle of
the road.
I could hear a truck coming, so with a thick blanket I gently carried it
to the
side of the road.
I was hoping it would realise I wanted to take it's photo and it
would
unroll accordingly.
But alas there it stayed. Gradually I found myself
mesmerised by the
texture and pattern
of it's beautiful quills.

A spiny insectivorous egg laying mammal with long
snout and claws, native to Australia and New Guinea
